1M2030 Story #13: Teaching One Billion Kids to Code

Hi! I am Samaira Mehta and I am one in a million. This my story.

I’m 12-years-old, and I’m from California. When I was eight years old, I developed a board game to make computer science fun for everyone. This board game, CoderBunnyz, at one point in time, trended at #1 out of all of the board games on Amazon.

This board game is the most comprehensive coding board game in existence.

It will teach many vital computer science concepts through a fun farmyard adventure. Over the years, I came across various problems inspiring me to create more board games. To date, I have 3 board games - CoderBunnyz, CoderMindz (the worlds’ first-ever AI-based board game), and CoderMarz (A game that teaches about Mars through the power of computer science and AI). All these games are available on Amazon and Walmart.

From there, I’ve grown beyond just a board game. I am on a mission and working towards impacting the lives of each and every child in the world - a goal to give them a problem-solving mindset and make them the leaders of tomorrow, through the power of computer science, with my mission Yes, One Billion Kids Can Code.

I know not every student will choose to become a professional coder when they grow but I believe a basic coding understanding will make them better thinkers, leaders, creators, and dreamers of our coming generation.

It'll equip them with the superpower of tomorrow - the power of code.

Many schools and school districts have gotten attached to my mission as well as big tech companies like Google, Microsoft, Intel, SAP, Facebook, Walmart, and Arm. With Arm, I am their brand ambassador, working towards bringing the mindset of GenZ into our upcoming technologies. With an ARM, I have gotten the chance to speak at Mobile World Conference (MWC), the biggest tech conference in the world, and various other places.

I, myself, have traveled across the world, from London to Barcelona to various parts of the US, to speak at big conferences. Finally, I have also learned about the gender gap, and have become a Gender Equality Activist - especially working toward bridging the tech gender gap.

I am working with the United Nations and UN Women, to make these visions a reality.
